Long before the roads were carved through the wilderness and long before the old shrines sank beneath moss and root, the ancient woodland clans worshipped a being known only as the Thorn-Tusk Sovereign — an immense boar god said to roam the twilight forests beneath blackened stars. It was believed that the god embodied the untamed soul of the wild itself.

The old clans feared the god as much as they revered it. To encounter the beast in the deep woods was considered both an omen and a judgment. Entire groves were left untouched in its honor. Fires were extinguished when its distant calls echoed tthroughout he trees. Offerings of bone, feather, blood, and carved tusks were offered and bound to sacred shrines in hopes the old god would spare the hunters from the hungry wilderness.

The Shrinebound is said to be one of those sacred relics.

Crafted from the remains of woodland creatures, ritual bindings, weathered branches, feathers, tusks, and ancient ceremonial markings, the effigy was never meant to simply depict the boar god.

It was meant to hold part of it.

Alas, over centuries, memory of the spirit became bound within the shrine itself until the boundary between relic and deity began to fade.

Over time, the shrine became abandoned. Held beneath collapsing stone halls where old bones still clung to the floors and stormwater seeped in through cracked ceilings. There, the Thorn-Tusk Sovereign lingered. Starving in silence within the relic. Its power diminished and forgotten. Buried beneath generations of dust, moss, and stone.

Until the Veiled Reliquary found it.

Now, deep within the candlelit reliquary beneath their monastic sanctum, the Shrinebound sits suspended among the ancient scrolls, blackwater basins, bells, and relics gathered from the forgotten corners of the world. 

For the Veiled Reliquary believed the Thorn-Tusk Sovereign carried knowledge older than mankind itself.
